Bio Phoenix, Arizona - Advertising and editorial photographer, Mark Peterman Mark Peterman grew up in the Midwestern United States. A Michigan native, he later attended high school and college in Kansas City, Missouri. His first published photograph appeared in the Blue Springs (Missouri) Examiner when he was sixteen years old. Mark has a background in graphic design and received a BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1996. Right out of school he started out as a self-taught freelance photographer and then spent several years as a staff photographer with Sun Publications in Overland Park, Kansas shooting editorial and advertising work. Mark won a number of awards from the Kansas Press Association between 1999 and 2003. He also had an album cover, Moaning Lisa “Wonderful”, named as one of the 'Top Twenty Sexiest Album Covers of All Time' by Playboy Magazine in 2002. After four years as a staff photographer he started freelancing full-time at the beginning of 2003. During his time working independently in the Midwest Mark was a regular contributor to The Kansas City Star (Knight-Ridder Publications), The Pitch (Village Voice Media) and Kansas City Magazine. Mark relocated to Phoenix, Arizona in the fall of 2004 and immediately started working with publications throughout the Phoenix metro area such as: Item magazine, Phoenix Magazine, Desert Living, Arizona Foothills, Arizona Business Magazine and Gannett Publications such as AZ Magazine and BizAZ Magazine. Mark is an active member of the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) and is a board member of the local Phoenix chapter. He is also a member of the National Press Photographers Association.
